Long Beach, CA -- The fourth-ranked BYU men's volleyball team was swept for the first time in 35 matches 3-0 (30-26, 30-27, 34-32), by Long Beach State on Wednesday in The Pyramid. BYU was blanked for the first time since a season-ending sweep at the hands of UCLA on April 22, 2000.

The Cougars had two players with double-digit kills for the ninth consecutive match. Senior All-American Mike Wall led the Cougars with a match-high 17 kills on 37 swings (.216), and Jaime Mayol had 10 kills on 19 attempts in hitting a team-high .474.

Long Beach State held BYU to a season-low 39 kills on 92 attempts (.185). The 49ers dominated statistically as they combined for 51 kills to hit .367.

BYU will practice on Thursday, Feb. 7, before returning to take on Long Beach State on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. (PST), in The Pyramid.
