LONG BEACH -- After losing to Long Beach State on Wednesday in three straight games, the fourth-ranked BYU men's volleyball team rebounded on Friday, recording its first road win of the season. In a match that lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes, the Cougars overcame a disastrous game-one to record a 3-2 victory over the 49'ers, 18-30, 30-27, 25-30, 30-18, 15-12.
All-American Mike Wall led the Cougars with his 10th straight double-digit performance, racking up a team-high 16 kills on 35 swings. Joaquin Acosta tallied 13 kills in the winning effort.
Defensively BYU out-blocked Long Beach State by an amazing 17.5 to 5.0 margin. Sophomore Chris Gorny produced a match-high nine blocks, while Wall and Rafael Paal each had five.
The Cougars (8-2, 6-2) will return to action on Saturday, playing at UC Irvine. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. (PST).
