COLORADO SPRINGS, CO—Rachel Fisher headlined the women's competition Saturday with an exceptional performance in the pole vault for the Cougars on the road at the 24th Annual Air Force Invitational.

Fisher cleared an impressive height of 4.20m (13’9.25”). This mark is only 0.06m, less than two and a half inches, away from Fisher’s career best height.

“The meet has been very good and the kids have performed well,” sprints and hurdles coach Mark Robison said. “This is a really good place for field events and for sprints.

After a grueling three day meet including a full pentathlon, BYU was able to earn second place at one of the few scored meets during their indoor season.

Beginning on Thursday, Elizabeth Wilson earned third place in the pentathlon, closely followed by teammate Alyssa Monteverde.  Monteverde also claimed fourth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.59.

Arlene Gowar, a junior from South Africa, scored fourth place in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.67, as well as third place in the 200m with a time of 24.79.

BYU won the mile relay with a time of 3:49.53 which was one of the highlights of the weekend.

The Cougars will return to the Academy for another meet on Feb. 14. BYU will compete next in Seattle at the Washington Invitational on Jan. 31.

PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s track and field team will be on the road Thursday Jan. 23 through Saturday Jan. 25 competing in the 24th annual Air Force Academy Invitational.

“The Air Force meet is a great one and a good opportunity for us to continue the roll we are on,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “We are excited for this meet because the multis get to compete again.”

The Air Force Invitational boasts a loaded field as well as a full schedule of events. The women will have their second chance of the season to compete in the pentathlon, as well as other individual events.

Alyssa Monteverde will be participating in the pentathlon Thursday after winning the event at the BYU Invitational. This will only be her second opportunity of the indoor season to earn extra points in the pentathlon.

Deezbaa Whaley will also be throwing the weight again Friday, with hopes of continuing her successful streak and besting her mark from the Lobo Collegiate in N.M. Jan. 18, where she earned second place on the top ten all-time at BYU in the weight throw.
