ALBERQUERQUE, N.M. - The BYU men's golf team concluded the first day of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in third place under harsh weather conditions, Friday.

"It was cold and windy, but the guys stepped up and we played the toughest holes on the course like superstars," BYU men's golf head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We've been coming to this golf course for 25 years and I've never seen a golf course so hard. All in all, we had a pretty good day."

Finishing ahead of the Cougars were Arizona State at five-under-par followed by New Mexico at six-over-par.

With a second round team low score of 70, senior Jordan Hammer completed the day in 15th place at three-over-par. He also finished with five birdies to complete the round.

"Jordan shot a 70 this afternoon and you can't even compare how good of a score that is for how bad the weather conditions were today," Brockbank said.

Joe Parkinson tied for 24th place including an eagle on the 18th hole of the first round to finish four-over-par. Jordan Rodgers and Justin Keiley both tied for 24th with a score of 149 each, while Stephen Archibald ended the day at 13-over-par to finish tied for 67th place after two rounds.

Junior Cole Ogden competed individually and tied for 79th place at 15-over-par.

"Hopefully we can go out there tomorrow and play good, consistent golf," Brockbank said. "We do that and we'll have a chance to move up."

The Cougars will return to action Saturday morning for the final round with live stats on golfstats.com
