FAIRFAX, California – Junior Joe Parkinson led BYU men’s golf to seventh place after the first two rounds at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday.

The Cougars ended the day in seventh place at five-under-par. Arizona State leads after two rounds at 19-under-par.

"We did alright today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "In the second round, the wind started blowing and we haven't found a way to play on the wind yet. It will be nice to put a good one together tomorrow. We definitely have some work ahead of us."

Parkinson finished the day in a tie for 12th place, shooting three-under-par. He shot 69 in the second round, his lowest round of the season so far.

"I was able to hang in there and do a lot of good things," Parkinson said. "If I can get the putter going tomorrow, then I feel like I can shoot a really good score."

Junior Tommy Higham shot 67 in the first round and is in a tie for 30th place. The 67 is his career low to date and was the lowest of the day for the Cougars.

In a tie for 24th place is senior Cole Ogden who shot one-under-par.  Another senior, Mike Jurca, ended the first two rounds tied for 59th place, shooting four-over-par. Finishing the day in a tie for 74th place, senior Jordan Rodgers shot nine-over-par.

Fellow West Coast Conference members San Francisco and Pepperdine are tied for 10th place. Saint Mary’s, another WCC member, is in 14th place after the first two rounds.

BYU tees-off at 8:15 p.m. PST on Tuesday for the third and final round at the Meadow Club. Live scoring will be available on the BYU schedule page.
