STOCKTON, California – Senior Cole Ogden led BYU men’s golf to a fourth-place finish after the first round of competition at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Thursday.

The Cougars finished the first day in fourth place after shooting one-under-par. Washington State is in first place (-10) after the first round, while fellow West Coast Conference member and tournament-host Pacific is in third place (-3). Santa Clara, another WCC member, is in ninth place (+5).

Ogden ended the day in a tie for third place, shooting three-under-par. He shot a season-low 68 in the first round.

“Coming into the tournament, I haven't been playing as well as I can,” Ogden said. “I finally got a few things going and started hitting better and making a few putts. It was nice to have a good round. As a team, we left a few shots out there, so I know we can improve over the next two days.”

Along with Ogden, two other BYU players are in the top 20. Senior Joe Parkinson is in a tie for ninth, shooting one-under-par. Freshman Austin Banz is tied for 17th and shot par.

Senior Jordan Rodgers and junior Tommy Higham are both in a tie for 41st place, shooting three-over-par.

BYU tees off the second round at 8 a.m. PST on Friday in Stockton. Live stats will be available on the BYU men’s golf schedule page
