Higham in 29th, team tied for 12th
FAIRFAX, Calif. — Senior Tommy Higham tied for 29th place through two rounds of play to lead the Cougars to a 12th place tie in the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Monday.
"We are hitting decent shots, but we aren't capitalizing on our chipping and putting, BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "The team shot a respectable second round, and I'm proud of the guys for turning it around."
Higham shot an even par 71 in Round 1 and finished Round 2 shooting a three-under-par 68. Last season in this same event, Higham shot his lowest career round (67). He birdied seven total holes on the day.
Host University of California-Berkeley leads the 16 team field at 30-under-par. West Coast Conference opponent Pepperdine currently sits alone in third place at 22-under-par, with San Francisco tied for sixth place at 19-under-par and San Diego in 16th at 13-over-par.
After 36 holes sophomore Patrick Fishburn is tied for 40th place at one-under-par. He shot two-over-par through the first 18 holes and then turned around and shot three-under-par on the second round of 18. Teammate CJ Lee is tied for 49th place at one-over-par, while Dalton Stanger and Austen Christiansen shot +8 and +6, respectively.
As a team the Cougars shot a total score of 568, shooting 278 (-6) in Round 2. BYU finished at even par overall.
