Day One Results

FAIRFAX, Calif. – BYU men’s golf fell to 10th place in the last day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club on Tuesday.

“Our expectations for this tournament was to win and when you finish in tenth place it’s a disappointment,” BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. “We started the event really well. The first round was exceptional, but we couldn’t handle the speed of the greens on the last two very well. I really like this group and know they will bounce back.”

The Cougars finished the day shooting one-over-par and ended the tournament at 16-under-par. BYU came in seventh place Monday, but fell three places on Tuesday for a 10th-place finish.

West Coast Conference opponents Saint Mary’s and Pepperdine both fell the second day to third and fifth places, respectively, while San Francisco moved up to a 14th-place finish.

Junior Patrick Fishburn also dropped three places in the third round to finish tied for sixth place. Fishburn shot an even par in the final round to bring his total score to 203 (-10). Spencer Dunaway finished the event shooting four-under-par to tie for 23rd place.

Freshman Rhett Rasmussen finished day one tied for 38th place. In the second and final day, he shot one-under-par to move up to 31st place. Rasmussen ended the tournament shooting two-under-par for a combined score of 211. CJ Lee and Peter Kuest finished the invitational in 56th and 74th places, respectively.

The Cougars will compete next in the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, California, on Oct. 27-29 at the Stockton Country and Golf Club.
