Kuest Named to Haskins Award Final Watch List
ORLANDO, Fla. — BYU men’s golfer Peter Kuest was named to the Haskins Award Final Watch List on Tuesday according to a joint announcement made by Golfweek and Golf Channel.
Kuest won three tournaments during the shortened 2019-20 campaign and boasted a program-record 69.42 stroke average. The senior from Fresno, California tallied seven top-10 finishes on the year and was named the Ben Hogan Award October Golfer of the Month and the WCC Golfer of the Month for September. He is currently ranked the No. 10 NCAA golfer according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Kuest is joined on the watch list by nine other golfers, including WCC opponents Sahith Theegala and William Mouw of Pepperdine.
The Haskins Award is presented annually to the most outstanding male collegiate golfer in the United States. Named in honor of golf teaching professional Fred Haskins, the award was first presented in 1971. Former Cougar great Bobby Clampett won the award in 1979 and 1980.
Voting for this year's award will be open to Division I players, coaches and select golf media members from April 7th through April 21st. The winner and two finalists will be announced on Golf Channel in May. The winner will receive an exemption into the PGA Tour’s A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in September.
