Cougars in Eighth Place After Day One
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. –The BYU men’s golf team was consistent, shooting back-to-back rounds of 23-over at the North Ranch Intercollegiate on Monday, placing them eighth after the first day of competition.
“The course was very challenging and we really struggled to finish during both rounds,” BYU coach Bruce Brockbank said.
Junior Zac Blair led the charge with a round of 1-over in the first round, placing 10th. The second round proved to be more difficult as Blair shot 5-over, but the junior's score was on pace with the rest of the field as Blair moved up to ninth place after the second round.
Not far behind Blair was sophomore Justin Keiley. Keiley, who played well last week in his first competition of the season, moved up from 33rd after round one to 18th after round two. Keiley also birdied hole No. 12 during both rounds, helping him to a total score of 9-over for the day.
Patrick Fishburn, McCoy Willey and Adam Tebbs are also competing for the Cougars.
“We need to figure out how to come out tomorrow and shoot a decent round,” Brockbank said.
Tournament play will conclude for the Cougars tomorrow.
