Carrazedo, Tullis qualify at SoCal Intercollegiates

LOS ANGELES – Aidan Carrazedo and Sam Tullis of BYU men’s tennis qualified for the main singles draw on Thursday at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships hosted by USC. 

Carrazedo advanced to the main singles draw after dominating Eric Kenneth (Hawai'i) 6-2, 6-1 in the qualifying draw. He will play No. 5 seed Jake DeVine from USC in the next round. 

Tullis defeated Cal Poly’s Garrett Auproux 6-3, 6-3 in the qualifying draw and will square off against Loyola Marymount University’s Nicholas Borchenko in the first round of the main draw. 

Sophomore JD Malan ousted Hawai'i’s Spencer Travallino 6-4, 7-5 before dropping his second match in the qualifying draw to Luke S. Bohuslav of LMU in a three-set tie break, 6-4, 3-6, 12-10.

Carrazedo and Tullis will take on Concordia’s Sten Boersma and Manhon Ko on Friday at 4 p.m. PDT to kick off doubles play for the Cougars. Singles matches will begin at 11 a.m.
