Cougars conclude Jack Kramer Invitational with Hill in singles finals

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – BYU’s Sean Hill concluded time at the Jack Kramer Invitational after advancing to the singles championship match on Saturday.

“Everybody became a better tennis player this week,” BYU head coach Brad Pearce said. “Sean played one of the finest collegiate tennis matches I, and everyone who watched, have ever seen. It was a privilege being associated with these young men.”

In the singles semifinals, No. 2 seed Hill faced the University of New Mexico’s Stepan Holis. The two battled it out and Hill earned the victory in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, advancing him to the championship match.

In the doubles quarterfinals, Hill and Mateo Vereau Melendez fell to Nico Borter and Holmgren of San Diego, 4-8.

“I’m looking forward to the ITA Fall Nationals next week in Newport Beach, California with Sean and Mateo, while other members of the team will be competing in the So Cal Intercollegiate,” Pearce continued.

Up next, BYU will wrap up fall tournament play with Hill and Vereau Melendez traveling to the ITA Fall Nationals on Nov. 6-9 while other players will compete at the Southern California Intercollegiate, Nov. 7-9.
