BYU and Boise State Ready to Battle Again
PROVO, Utah (March 29, 2002) ? The No. 72 BYU men?s tennis team, coming off a three-match road trip in California, will play its final home match of the season Saturday at noon against No. 75 Boise State. The Cougars (7-7,0-0) matched up with the Broncos once this season already, with BYU knocking off Boise State, 5-2.
Senior Nic Losee and sophomore Erik Nyman have led BYU of late, with Losee winning eight of his last nine singles matches. Nyman has only lost three matches over that same time frame, and the two players have been hot of late in doubles play. Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms, the No. 10 doubles team in the nation, almost defeated the No. 1 doubles team in the nation against Stanford, but came up just short.
Boise State is led by sophomore Guillaume Bouvier and junior Marcus Berntson. Bouvier is the No. 77 singles player in the nation, while Berntson is right behind in No. 98. The two top-100 players give the Broncos some firepower in singles and they have won five straight matches.
The match will begin at noon on the outdoor courts, weather permitting. This will be the Cougars? final home match, and BYU has not lost a match at home.
