Batrakov Earns Second MWC Player of the Week Award
PROVO -- For the second time this season, junior Georgy Batrakov earned Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honors Wednesday for his part in the No. 39 BYU men’s tennis team’s weekend success.
In the H. E. B. Tournament of Champions, Batrakov, a native of Yaroslavl, Russia, helped the Cougars reach the top with three straight singles wins and two doubles wins. Batrakov put up BYU’s third point against DePaul with a straight-set win against Matija Palinic and contributed the team’s first doubles win with partner Thomas Shubert.
Batrakov went on to score BYU’ first singles point in the final match against No. 54 Texas A&M, Corpus Christi and aided the Cougars to their fifth straight sweep.
Batrakov is 11-3 on the season in singles and is undefeated on Court 2. With Shubert, Batrakov holds a 4-0 doubles record.
He earned his first 2011 Player of the Week honors with his performance in BYU’s sweep of No. 52 San Diego State.
