Weirich wins pole vault at MPSF Championships

SEATTLE – Victor Weirich took first place in the men's pole vault on Friday during the first day of competition at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship at Dempsey Indoor Facility.

Weirich scored 10 points for the Cougars with his high mark of 17-09.75. Braydon Bringhurst finished fourth in the event with a height of 16-10.00, adding another five points to BYU's score.

"Our pole vaulters had a great day today," head coach Mark Robison said. "We didn't do a lot of events today, but I felt good about how we performed. We should be able to score some points in a few of the events tomorrow as well."

The Cougars finished the day in fifth place with 21 total points. Arizona State (55.5), California (32), Washington State (28) and Stanford (26.5) are the four teams currently ahead of BYU.

The distance medley relay team of Jason Witt, Cade Lindahl, Ryan Waite and Jared Ward took third place and grabbed six points for the Cougars. They finished the race with a time of 9:42.13.

Fan Fan Charles took fifth place in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, qualifying for the finals with a time of 6.79.

In the long jump, John Glazier took 13^th place with a distance of 23-00.50.
