Dickson, Graham advance to final at U.S.A. Championships
DES MOINES, Iowa - Freshmen Marcus Dickson and David Graham each advanced to the final of the junior men’s 800-meter run Thursday at the 2013 U.S.A. Track and Field Championships, held in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake University. Dickson won his heat in a time of 1:53.13 while Graham finished second in his heat, running 1:51.69.
“I felt really good in the race and I’m ready for the final,” Dickson said. “It’s awesome that Graham made the final as well because when we see each other in the race it will be a reminder of all the hard work we have put in this year and that we are ready for this.”
Also competing on Thursday were junior All-American Jared Ward and freshman Dennis Christensen. Ward ran 29:40.92 in the 10,000-meter run to take 13th place. Christensen threw 52 feet 2.75 inches in the shot put to place 13th in the junior men’s shot put.
The Cougars will have four athletes competing on Friday with Graham and Dickson in the junior men’s 800-meter final, freshman John Glazier competing in the junior men’s long jump and All-American senior Victor Weirich competing in the senior men’s pole vault.
