Seven Cougars named All-Americans

PROVO, Utah – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today that seven members of the BYU men’s track and field team collected eight All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships. Ed Eyestone coaches the cross country team while Mark Robison coaches the track and field team.

Miles Batty, Chris Carter and Jared Ward earned first-team All-America honors by finishing in the top eight of their respective events at the Championships on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Batty took second in the 1,500 meters (3:43.83), a race that came down to a photo finish. Ward ran a personal best in the 10,000 meters (28:59.74) to take fifth and Carter placed eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (51.77). The three scored all 13 of BYU’s points as the Cougars finished tied for 21st.

Carter teamed up with Jason Hinds, Cade Lindahl and Shaquille Walker to earn second-team All-America honors in the 4x400 relay. The group finished 15th overall with a time of 3:06.81. Alden Bahr took 10th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:21.64 to claim second-team All-America status.

Batty will compete for a spot on the US Olympic Team at the 2012 US Olympic Trials from June 21 to July 1 in Eugene, Ore.
