BYU on the road vs. Pacific, Stanford
PROVO, Utah—After a 10-day break, No. 4 BYU men’s volleyball returns to California to take on Pacific Friday at 7 p.m. PST and No. 8 Stanford Saturday at 7 p.m. PST on the Pac-12 Network.
The weekend matches will be the Cougars’ second time meeting both teams this season. In January, BYU (8-3, 8-1 MPSF) defeated Stanford 3-1 and Pacific 3-0 in the Smith Fieldhouse.
In BYU’s last match, the Cougars took down Cal Baptist on the road in three sets. Outside hitter Taylor Sander led the way with 17 kills, hitting .333.
Sander is No. 1 for BYU in kills per set with 4.33, tied for the fourth-best average in the nation. Sander is also fifth in the nation with .52 aces per set (22 total). Helping out on offense is setter Tyler Heap, who averages 10.44 assists per set. On defense, Michael Hatch contributes 1.33 blocks per set, while Jaylen Reyes leads the team with 1.80 digs per set.
Prior to their showdowns with BYU, Stanford (7-4, 4-4 MPSF) and Pacific (2-9. 1-7 MPSF) will face off Wednesday on the Tigers’ home court.
BYU faces the No. 3 blocker in the country in Pacific’s Tommy Carmody. Carmody averages 1.58 blocks per set. Pacific is the No. 5 team in blocks per set, averaging 2.93. On offense, Thomas Hodges leads with 3.19 kills per set.
Stanford’s Steven Irvin records 3.52 kills per set on a .320 hit clip and 1.93 digs per set.
