Six Cougars named MPSF Scholar-Athletes
PROVO, Utah—Six Cougars were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday.
Senior Devin Young; juniors Phil Fuchs, Josue Rivera and Jaylen Reyes; and sophomores Michael Hatch and Robbie Sutton received the honors based on their grade point averages and athletic contributions during the 2014 season.
Fifty-two volleyball players were named MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athletes. BYU’s six honorees was third most in the league, behind Stanford with nine and UC San Diego with eight.
To receive the award, athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, complete one full academic year prior to the season and compete in at least 50 percent of his team’s competitions.
