No. 3 BYU hits the road for matches at No. 9 UC Irvine

PROVO, Utah – No. 3 BYU men’s volleyball hits the road for the second-consecutive week to face No. 9 UC Irvine in a pair of conference matches on Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out

The Cougars split a pair of road matches at No. 2 Long Beach State last week. BYU won the first match in four sets, led by Jake Langlois’ 16 kills, and the 49ers swept the Cougars the following night.

No. 9 UC Irvine

  • The Anteaters are 2-4 overall and 1-3 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
  • BYU first plays Friday at 7 p.m. PST before Saturday’s 2 p.m. PST match.

  • UC Irvine lost both matches last week on the road at Pepperdine and Stanford.
  • BYU and UC Irvine have two common opponents so far this year – George Mason and Loyola-Chicago – as the Anteaters traveled to Provo in the first week of action to take part in the AVCA Showcase. UC Irvine lost to the Ramblers while both the Cougars and Anteaters beat the Patriots.
  • UC Irvine was picked to finish second in both the MPSF and AVCA preseason coaches’ poll, behind BYU.
  • The Cougars lead the overall series history with the Anteaters 43-16 and are 21-6 when playing at the Bren Events Center.
  • UC Irvine won both matches in 2015, snapping BYU’s 36-match home win streak in the process.
