Jauhiainen receives second career Elite 90 award

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Miki Jauhiainen is the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award recognized at the 2021 NCAA Division I-II Men’s Volleyball Championship, the NCAA announced Thursday. 

Jauhiainen a Master of Science, computer science student has maintained a 4.0 GPA the entirety of his undergraduate and graduate experience. 

"I've been working hard in school all five years, and it's nice to have something to show for it," Jauhiainen said. "More importantly, I hope that it helps someone see that you can be a student-athlete and still compete at the highest level. All it takes is some dedication."

Jauhiainen is the second BYU men’s volleyball player to receive the award, and the only BYU athlete to receive it twice. Jauhiainen was honored for the first time in 2018. 

The Elite 90 award represents the best of academic and athletic success at the highest level. The award honors the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA participating in the finals of each of the 90 NCAA championships. Nominees must be academic sophomores who have participated in their sport for at least two years.
