Keith leads Cougars to eighth place finish

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Amanda Keith shot a final round 75 (+3) to solidify an eighth place finish for the BYU women's golf team at the UC Irvine Invitational on Tuesday.

The Cougars shot a final round 313 (+25) and 54-hole total 945 (+81), to finish four strokes behind seventh place Sacramento State (+77).

“It was an okay day,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We had some good things. Amanda played really well.  She’s the bright spot of the tournament.”

West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga won the tournament, shooting a final round 292 (+4), and finishing the tournament at 21-over-per. Santa Clara placed sixth (+65), 16 strokes ahead of BYU.

Keith had a consistent final round, making two birdies and finishing the tournament with seven birdies. She ended in 16th place after strong play in the second and third rounds and shot 13-over-par on the tournament.

Lea Garner, Lauren Atkinson and Selu Fotu all shot a third round eight-over-par 80. Garner finished the tournament at 22-over-par, while Atkinson finished at 23-over-par tied for 37th and 40th respectively in the individual standings. Fotu tied for 46th place at 24-over-par. 

Junior Annika Afoa Kahaiali'i and sophomore Maria Yacaman both shot a final round 79 (+7), their best rounds of the tournament. Kahaiali'i and Yacaman each had three birdies apiece on the day.
