Seventh place finish at Rainbow Wahine Invitational
WAHIAWA, Hawaii - The BYU women's golf team finished in seventh place at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Thursday.
"We started okay, but it wasn't a very good finish," BYU women's golf head coach Carrie Roberts said. "We can work a lot on ball striking and putting during the offseason before starting up again in the spring."
BYU finished 65-over-par to finish in seventh place ahead of Utah Valley who finished 67-over-par. Sacramento State moved to the top at 38-over-par with Hawaii and New Mexico State tied in second place at 39-over-par to finish the tournament.
Senior Selu Fotu tied in fourth place at eight-over-par with three birdies, while Lea Garner finished tied in 11th place at 10-over-par with a total of three birdies for the round as well. Garner's third round score of 73 was a team best during the three-day tournament.
"Lea and Selu both played well and had a good finish to help the team," Roberts said.
Freshman Annie Yang completed the tournament at 25-over-par to finish in 39th place, while Annika Afoa Kahaiali'i and Carly Oldroyd both tied in 41st place at 28-over-par.
Individual participants Brooklyn Anderson tied in 44th place at 31-over-par with Gabby Gregory in 49th place at 35-over-par.
The Cougars will return to tournament play on Feb. 10-11 for the Matador Invitational in Simi Valley, Calif., and will look to capitalize on their fall season experience.
