TARZANA, Calif. - The BYU women's golf team stands in 16th place after day one of the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday.

"We didn't play well," BYU women's golf coach Carrie Roberts said. "It's one of the hardest golf course we've played. The girls battled and it was a long day, but there are a lot of things we can do better. We need to be mentally tough and we need to hit the fairways better. If we're committed to our shots, we will be fine."

BYU finished at 64-over-par with New Mexico State trailing by two strokes. No. 1-ranked Southern California led the 17-team tournament team at 3-under-par with No. 2 UCLA trailing at 2-over-par.

Alexandra White tied in 25th place to finish at 7-over-par with three birdies in two rounds. Lea Garner and Maria Yacaman both tied in 67th place at 18-over-par with two and three birdies, respectively.

Freshman Annie Yang tied in 80th at 21-over-par with Selu Fotu finishing in 86th place at 26-over-par after day one.

West Coast Conference foe Pepperdine finished in third at 5-over-par.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. PST. Live stats can be found on the schedule page, here
