Stong team effort puts Cougars in third place after day one
PULLMAN, Washington – Strong individual performances pushed the BYU women’s golf team to third place after the first day of competition at the Cougar Cup on Monday.
“We were six over in our first six holes and two over in our second 18, which is really good,” BYU head coach Carrie Roberts said. “We strive to do better each round, and we did that.”
Washington State leads all teams after the first day at six-under-par. Idaho is in second place at 10-over-par and BYU is right behind Idaho in third place at 11-over-par.
Junior Lea Garner led the Cougars once again. She finished the day in a tie for fifth place at two-under-par. Not far behind Garner is senior Maria Yacaman who shot one-over-par, giving BYU a big boost. Junior Carly Oldroyd also had a great day, shooting three-over-par and finished tied for 13th place.
Freshman Kendra Dalton ended the day at 10-over-par, tied for 34th place. Freshman Sierra Harr finished the two rounds tied in 43rd place and shot 38-over-par.
Annie Yang, who is competing individually, improved in the second round, shooting 76 and finishing tied for 38th place, shooting 11-over-par.
