BYU Finishes Fourth in Hawaii Invitational
OAHU -- Playing in its final tournament of the fall, the BYU women's golf team placed fourth in the Rainbow Wahine Fall Golf Classic Wednesday.
BYU finished with a total score of 941. UCLA took top honors with a 923, followed by runner-up the University of Oregon with 929. Mountain West Conference rival San Diego State placed ninth in the field of 14 teams.
The top individual finisher for the Cougars was Carrie Summerhays, whose score of 229 put her in a four-way tie for fourth. Teammate Nicole Parry posted a score of 231, good for eighth place, while Adrianne Gibby finished 21st. UCLA's Laura Moffat won the individual title in a sudden death playoff.
The tournament was one of the better outings for the Cougars, who have struggled at times during the fall season.
"Our finish today helps us have a winning record against schools in our region and will help us get into regionals this spring. It's the way we wanted to finish the season," BYU coach Gary Howard said. "We're playing more consistently. It's exciting that the team's excited about what we're doing."
