KAPELOI, Hawaii. — Squaring off against best competition of the season, the women’s golf team is sitting in sixth after the first two rounds of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

While the Cougars are in the middle of the pack, nationally ranked UCLA, Washington and Stanford are leading the way. UCLA, the No. 1 team in the country, is currently in first, 18 shots ahead of second-place Washington.

Maggie Yuan leads the Cougars, tied for 12th overall. Yuan shot a team-low 74 in the first round and dropped it to a 73 in the second round. Behind Yuan is Ashley Malaska who had a great second round, shooting a 74. Malaska is just outside of the top 20 going into the final round, currently 22nd overall.

Amanda Keith and Maria Yacaman also put in strong performances on the day and are tied for 34th. After struggling on her front nine, Keith birdied several holes on the back to keep pace for the Cougars.

The Cougars will finish tournament play on Wednesday. To follow the tournament live click here.
