Born in Honolulu ... parents are Ken and Dawn Nakayama ... served a Church mission to Nagoya, Japan ...is an Eagle Scout ... in summer of 2000 he played for the Hawai`i Island Movers in the Alaskan League ... also played for the Kailua Boys of Summer and was on the Hawai`i all-star team ... graduated in April 2007, majoring in sociology/law enforcement.

Before BYU

Prepped at Molokai High where he was coached by his father ... selected as the 2000 most outstanding player on his high school team ... was player of the year for the Maui Interscholastic League ... was co-player of the year in 1999 for that league ... was selected as position player of the year in 2000 by the Hawai`i High School Athletic Association and was Sportsman of the Year in 2000 for the Honolulu Quarterback Club ... his team won the state baseball titles in 1999 and 2000.

Other College

Played at Utah Valley State College where he was selected as both the Outstanding Player and the Athlete of the Year for 2002 ... first team All-Region 18 as a designated hitter in 2001 and first-team all-region as a catcher in 2002.

Selected to the All-Mountain West Conference all-tournament team where he batted .615 ... started 56 games as the designated hitter and three at first base ... had a 14-game hitting streak ... led team with 27 multiple hit games ... first at bat in the season opener was a RBI triple with no outs in the second inning in the upset at No. 19 UC Irvine ... scored the game-winning run later that inning ... went 4-for-5 in a 13-5 victory at San Jose State, with a towering, three-run home run that went 410-feet off a sign in center field and also had two doubles in that game ... had one of seven doubles being hit by BYU in the ninth inning of a 19-6 victory over New Mexico in game two at Albuquerque, just one two-bagger shy of tying the 1996 NCAA record set by LSU ... he also homered that inning ... hit a walk-off double to left centerfield on a full count with two outs in BYU's 13-12 victory over San Diego State ... in a game televised nationally on BYUTV, he hit two homers, the second of which was a towering blast in the sixth inning of the nightcap of a split doubleheader against UNLV in Provo for the game-winning RBI ... that blast went near the dormatory beyond the rightfield fence ... listed as No. 65 in the nation and top in the MWC as the toughest to strike out ... ended season with a current four-game hitting streak ... blew out his knee early during summer ball at Cape Cod.

Senior Year 2007

Named Second Team All-Midwest Region ... Selected Second Team All-Mountain West Conference and to the MWC All-Tournament Team ... was pre-season All-MWC by the coaches and Baseball America magazine ... played left field as well as batted as a designated hitter ... led the team with four game-winning RBI (Binghamton, UNLV twice and at TCU) and has hit 11 home runs ... hit a grand slam at Southern Utah in St. George ... had a seven-game hitting streak early in the season.
