2016 BYU Hall of Fame

As a member of the BYU men’s volleyball team from 1999-02, Wall led the Cougars in kills and kills per set for three seasons. He still holds four of the top seven performances on BYU’s all-time list for kills in a match. Wall also set BYU rally scoring era season records for kills (534) and kills per set (4.90) during the 2002 season.

In addition to owning multiple BYU records, Wall was a three-time All-MPSF First Team honoree (2000-02) and a two-time AVCA First-Team All-American (2001 and 2002). He was also a part of two regular season MPSF Championships (1999 and 2001), an MPSF Tournament Championship (1999) and two NCAA National Championship teams (1999 and 2001) during his time at BYU. Wall was named the 2001 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player for his role in helping BYU win its second national title in men’s volleyball.

While at BYU, Wall also played on the U.S. National Team from 2001-02. Following his national team experience, Wall headed overseas to play professionally in Switzerland and Puerto Rico from 2002-04.

After returning to the United States, Wall began his coaching career, helping the women’s volleyball teams at three different schools as an assistant coach before joining the staff at Arizona State from 2006-08. After taking a break from volleyball for a few years, Mike returned to his position as an assistant coach at Arizona State for the 2012 season.

In 2013, Wall was selected as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team—a role in which his biggest professional accomplishments to date have taken place. He helped Team USA win the gold medal at the 2014 World League, and then, in 2015, helped guide the team to gold at the World Cup—the first time the U.S. men’s team had won the title in 30 years. After getting off to an 0-2 start at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Wall helped Team USA through a must-win stretch to claim the bronze medal and a spot on the podium at his first Olympics.

Wall graduated from BYU in 2003 with a degree in psychology. He and his wife, Erin, have one daughter.

A member of the 1999 NCAA National Championship team ... played in 13 of the Cougars' 31 matches ... recorded 76 kills over 146 attempts (.301) ... produced 29 digs and 15 blocks ... tallied a season-high nine kills against UC Irvine on Jan. 8.

Earned All-MPSF honors as as sophomore ... played in 85 games ... led BYU with 479 kills, averaging a team-leading 5.64 kills per game ... led the Cougars with three 30-kill performances, including a career-high 42-kill performance against UCLA (March 1) ... recorded 22 matches with 10 or more kills, including a streak of 18 straight matches with at least 10 kills ... produced 10 matches with 20 or more kills ... hit .319 on the season, connecting on 479-of-975 swings ... recorded 90 blocks and 88 assists ... registered a team-leading 12 digs against Ohio State (March 25) ... recorded 10 aces.

Earned AVCA All-America honors ... named NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player ... selected as an All-MPSF first-team performer ... ranked in the nation's top-10 in kills, averaging over 4.4 kills per game ... recorded a .366 attack percentage, ranking as one of the nation's top averages for a player with 500 or more attempts ... recorded 10 or more kills in 21 matches on the season, including a season-high 30 kills against 10th-ranked Lewis on Jan. 27 ... tallied 20 or more kills in different matches.

Named to the 2002 AVCA All-America First Team, joining Ryan Millar and Ethan Watts as the only players in BYU volleyball history to earn back-to-back first-team honors...also named to the 2002 All-MPSF First Team...recorded eight 20-kill performances during the regular season, registering 10 or more in 28 of the Cougars' matches in the 2002 season...led the Cougars with 534 kills on the season, averaging 4.9 kills per game...second on the BYU roster for hitting percentage with .353...recorded a season-high 33 kills on 50 swings and 15 digs against Stanford in the first round of the MPSF Tournament April 20, setting a new BYU record...one of only two players on the BYU roster to play in all 109 games during the season...ranked third on the BYU roster with 23 service aces...also credited with 154 digs and 90 blocks on the season.
