Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Sept. 25, 2001) -- BYU surged forward Tuesday, moving up from fourth place to finish in second(604), five strokes behind host University of Denver(599) at the Pioneer Highlands Ranch Intercollegiate.
"This is a great finish for us," head coach Sue Nyhus said. "To come in and battle to the top, finishing only behind the host on their own course is very impressive."
Carrie Summerhays played well, maintaining the second place position she held on Monday, to finish tied at 145 over 36 holes. Summerhays finished behind Denver's Kelly Shaub who finished with a 138.
"Carrie is playing great for us," Nyhus said. "Thanks to solid performances from everyone, we have started strong this season with two top-five finishes in as many tournaments."
Nicole Newren played another solid round of golf to finish tied at ninth(150), knotted with six other players. Jessica Gardner improved on her first round score to finish tied at 26th after scoring a two-round total of 154. Adrianne Olsen shot four less than she had the day earlier to finish tied for 34th at 156 strokes.
The Cougars finished ahead of 12 universities, including three Mountain West Conference opponents.
