7th
Sophomores Carrie Summerhays and Adrianne Gibby paced the BYU women's golf team to a seventh-place finish and the team's lowest 54-hole total of the season at the Pioneer Electric Bruin Classic.
After struggling in it's first two spring tournaments, BYU got on track thanks to the play of Gibby and Summerhays. Summerhays shot a final round 72 to finish 11th overall while Gibby, who made her first hole in one on her 20th birthday, shot a career 54-hole best of 228 to place 18th overall.
"This is the first tournament where everybody has shot under 240 individually," BYU head coach Gary Howard said. "We had a really good effort in this tournament. This is the kind of stuff we are capable of."
Howard is excited about warmer temperatures in Utah Valley that should give his Cougar squad more practice time and a chance to concentrate on the team's short game, which has been BYU's weakness as of late.
"It's hurt us not being able to practice very much the last few weeks," Howard said.
BYU next plays in the Lady Aztec Spring Invitational in San Diego on March 27-28.
"Last year the Lady Aztec Tournament was the turning point for us," Howard said. "We're starting to improve and I think we are ready to have another good showing down there."
