USAFA -- BYU (12-2-2) evened it conference record at 2-2-0 Saturday at Air Force (2-12-2, 0-5-0) in a 3-0 victory that featured the first multi-goal game from freshman Kassidy Christensen.
Christensen, a true freshman from Bountiful, Utah (Woods Cross HS), is the second leading scorer on the Cougar squad with five goals. Junior Katie Fellows (Sandy, Utah -- Alta HS) also recorded her second goal of the season in the team's tenth shutout of the season. Assists on the three goals came from juniors Katie Larkin (4) and Amanda Draeger (1), and freshman Nicole Urry (2).
"We made some changes after our last two losses and it worked well for us," head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "Everybody got some good minutes. Our midfielders and forwards created more opportunities for us tonight than we've had in a long time. Our backs are against the wall, and I thought our girls did a great job bouncing back."
Christensen scored the game-winning goal just six minutes into the contest. Urry sent the ball into the penalty area from the left side and Christensen was about to head it in from ten yards out.
She scored her second goal one minute into the second half on a pass in front of the net from Draeger. The third and final goal was scored as Larkin sent the ball into the box where Fellows was able to control it and bury it.
"We just practiced some new formation changes for the first time last night," Christensen said. "It was good night, and we're all feeling comfortable with the new changes."
The Cougars will return home for a short rest before heading to Wyoming to face the Cowgirls on Thursday in the fifth of seven conference games. The team will then return home to face New Mexico on Saturday. That game will be senior night and the last home game before the conference tournament.
