LAS -- A goal from Senior Kassidy C. Shumway gave the No. 9 BYU Cougars the 1-0 win over UNLV Saturday in its third conference game this year.

"We're working to get better with each game," said BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood. "We talked a lot today about giving our best effort and I think we did that. We're working to continue to keep up our efforts up through the entire 90 minutes."

BYU is now 11-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference.

Shumway’s goal in the fourth minute of the first half was all the Cougars needed to secure their ninth unbeaten game this season.

"Kassidy has really stepped up her game in the last few weeks," Rockwood said. "She gave us a great effort today and I look forward to seeing more from her this year."

This was Shumway’s fourth goal of the season.

Senior Hermann Trophy Candidate Andrea Willis recorded the assist to Shumway for the goal, off a free kick. Willis now has three assists this season, a career-high.

Willis leads the Cougar defense that only allowed two shots on goal this game. Both shots were saved by sophomore McKinzie Olson who played the entire 90 minutes. Olson has now recorded six personal shutouts this season.

The Cougars proved dominant throughout the game ending with 16 shots to UNLV’s 8. Senior Alyssa Vander Veur led BYU with four shots while teammates Lauren Anderson, Jessica Ringwood and Shumway all added two of their own.

"This was another good good win for us on the road." Rockwood said. "We look forward to getting back home next week."

The Cougars will continue conference action at South Field against New Mexico on Thurs. Oct. 15 and TCU on Sat. Oct. 17. Both matches kick off at 7 p.m. The game against the Lobos airs live on BYUTV while the contest with the Horned Frogs can be heard live over the internet on BYU Radio.
