COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In its 2011 exhibition game, the BYU women's soccer team defeated Colorado College 2-1, Saturday, on the road.
The first half proved to be a back-and-forth match-up for both teams as the Cougars and Tigers left the field scoreless at halftime.
Another 15 minutes into the second half, BYU got its chance at the goal and capitalized. Senior Auna Doria sent a leading pass to Lauren Anderson Cosby who hit the back of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. However, the Tigers didn't let BYU stay ahead for long and got the equalizer from Brittney Lyman in the 68th minute.
Known for being able to get goals when the team is in need, junior forward Carlee Payne took advantage of a great pass from freshman Jaiden Thornock and found the back of the net for the game winner. Payne, Cosby and Jennie Marshall finished the game with two shots apiece while Doria contributed three. The Tigers also had three players with two shots each.
The Cougars begin their regular season on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. PT when they head to Washington to take on the University of Washington.
