Brugman named Second Team All-Region

Outfielder Jaycob Brugman of BYU has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-West Region Second Team.

The Arizona junior who was drafted in the 17^th round was signed by the Oakland A’s and now plays for the Vermont Lake Monsters.

"Jaycob was probably our most polished player, and the closest to a five-tool player we had last season," BYU coach Mike Littlewood said.  "Jaycob has some of the quickest hands at the plate I have had the opportunity to coach, and he has the ability to put together professional at-bats.  I’m excited the Oakland A’s have given him the opportunity to pursue his dream of playing professional baseball."

Brugman joins four other players from the West Coast Conference in being selected to the All-West Region teams.

Brugman, along with former teammates Jacob Hannemann (3^rd round Chicago Cubs-Boise Hawks), Adam Law (12^th round Los Angeles Dodgers-AZL Dodgers) and Adam Miller (20^th round Arizona Diamondbacks-Missoula Osprey) have all signed with their respective teams.

"The Cubs organization is not only getting a great athlete with tremendous upside, they are getting a quality person who will keep his head down and work hard day in and day out," Littlewood said of Hannemann.  "Jacob may not have many games under his belt but his desire to learn more about the game and perfect every aspect of his game will take him a long way.  There are simply not many athletes like him in minor league baseball.

"Adam proved to everyone hard work pays off," Littlewood said of Law.  "He dedicated himself to getting bigger, faster, stronger last summer and it paid great dividends for him personally, as well as for BYU as a team.  Adam will have a smooth transition into professional baseball because not only does he have the physical tools to play at the next level - he understands the game like a coach.  The Dodgers are getting a heady player who will be ready to compete day in and day out.  Adam’s ability to play multiple positions, including the outfield, will greatly benefit him down the road.

"Adam has a dynamic arm with electric stuff and when he puts it all together I believe he will shoot through the Diamondbacks organization," Littlewood said of Miller.  "He is getting better and better every year and I’m happy the Diamondbacks recognized his potential.  My staff and I are excited to see Adam work hard to reach his potential; he has the type of stuff to make it to the Major Leagues quickly."

Incoming junior JC Snyder, who was drafted in the 36^th round by the Seattle Mariners, will be transferring to play for BYU in 2014.
