Dalton wins decathlon at Robison Invitational

PROVO, Utah – Chase Dalton posted a score of 7,403 to place first in the decathlon at the 2014 Robison Invitational at Clarence Robison Track. The decathlon began on Wednesday and concluded on Thursday.

Dalton’s score of 7,403 is the second highest of his BYU career. At the 2014 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in March, Dalton posted his career-high score of 7,642 to finish first.

While Dalton was 239 points off his career-best decathlon score, he posted improved marks in four events from what he posted at the Texas Relays.

In the long jump, Dalton posted a mark of 23 feet, 7 inches, 3.75 inches better than his mark at the Texas Relays. His biggest improvement came in the discus, as he threw the implement 154 feet, 9.75 inches, a 10 foot, 2.75 inch improvement over his mark at the Texas Relays.

Dalton improved in the javelin and the 400 meters with marks of 214 feet, 4.50 inches and 51.71 seconds, in the respective events.

Other Cougars competing in the decathlon were freshmen Brian Matthews and Jackson Walker and senior Isaac Robison. Matthews took third while Walker and Robison took fifth and sixth, respectively to give the Cougars four of the top six spots. Matthews (6,663) and Walker (6,435) posted career-high decathlon scores while Robison’s score of 6,409 was a season high.

The Robison Invitational continues on Friday beginning with the women’s hammer throw at 10:30 a.m. MT.
