BYU women’s golf finishes third at Golfweek Red Sky Classic
WOLCOTT, Colo. — No. 24 BYU women’s golf finished in third place after posting a 1-over-par 577 in the rain shortened 36-hole Golfweek Red Sky Classic on Wednesday.
The 24th ranked Cougars shot 8-over during a rain-soaked second round after firing a 7-under in the first round on Monday. Due to the weather BYU played part of the second round on Tuesday and finished the rest of the round on Wednesday.
“I don’t think we responded well to the weather,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “The weather was pretty extreme and we just didn’t handle it as well as we could have. We had some bright moments in the first-round, but ultimately couldn’t get the job done.”
Seniors Annick Haczkiewicz, Kerstin Fotu and Allysha Mae Mateo each recorded top-25 finishes. Haczkiewicz and Fotu have finished in the top-25 in two of the first three events, while Mateo has posted three straight top-25 finishes including a 12th place at the Dick McGuire Invitational, tied for fourth at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate and a tied for 24th place finish at the Golfweek.
Haczkiewicz shot even-par for the 36-hole event with scores of 69-75—144 finishing tied for 13th. Fotu also tied for 13th with rounds of 66-78—144. Mateo finished in a tie for 24th at 1-over par after shooting 71-74—145.
Lila Galeai posted the best final round score for the Cougars shooting 1-under par in the final 18. Galeai had a roller coaster round recording eight birdies, five bogeys and a double on her way to finishing tied for 38th.
Adeline Anderson rounded out the scoring for the Cougars shooting 75-76—151 and finishing in a tie for 54th.
