Broken Arrow, Okla. — BYU women’s golf shot 2-over par as a team in the first round of the Dale McNamara Invitational, putting the Cougars just one-shot back of UNLV through 18-holes play.

"We had a solid first round today," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "Annick and Lila really stepped up. Annick had her distances dialed in and Lila made some great saves to keep her under par."

Annick Haczkiewicz shot 3-under 69 in the opening round to lead the Cougars and take sole possession of third. The senior carded five birdies and two bogeys in her opening round.

Lila Galeai found herself one shot back of her teammate after posting three birdies and a lone bogey on her way to a 2-under 70. The sophomore sits in a tie for fourth.

Allysha Mae Mateo sits in a tie for 23rd after firing a 2-over 74 in the first round. Adeline Anderson shot 77 and is tied for 41st.  Kerstin Fotu rounded out the scoring for the Cougars shooting 8-over to tie for 63rd.

BYU freshman Alexa Udom, playing as an individual, posted a 3-over 75 and finds herself in a tie for 28th after her first tournament round as a Cougar.

"It was pretty windy today but manageable," said Roberts. "We need to tighten up a few things and minimize the mistakes to put us in contention tomorrow."

The Cougars at 290 are one shot behind UNLV at 289 and three shots clear of Nebraska who holds the third spot at 293. Sam Houston and New Mexico round out the top five at 297.

The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be resumed Tuesday morning followed by the 18-hole final round.
