The No. 6 BYU women’s soccer team will host the Cal State Fullerton Titans in the regular season opener for both teams on Friday, Aug. 23. The game will be televised on BYUtv and will start at 7 p.m. MT.

The Titans tied No. 11 San Diego State 0-0 in their exhibition on Aug. 16, while the Cougars defeated the Haiti women’s national team 5-0 the same night.

Four different Cougars scored against Haiti. Senior Cloee Colohan scored two goals, while senior Rachel Manning, sophomore Marissa Nimmer and freshman Ashley Hatch also scored against Haiti. Goalkeepers Erica Owens and Hilary Smith Kaufusi kept Haiti scoreless.

Cal State Fullerton is the defending Big West regular season champion and was picked by their league to repeat. The Titans held No. 11 San Diego State to a scoreless draw in their exhibition game and Fullerton’s goalkeeper Lindsey Marcic will be in goal for the third straight year for the Titans. She is top five in six career goalkeeping categories for the Titans.

The Utah Youth Soccer Association (UYSA) and BYU have teamed up for Youth Soccer Night on Aug. 23. Any child wearing his/her youth soccer jersey receives a $1 general admission ticket to the game against Cal State Fullerton. All children wearing jerseys can be on the field during warmups. There will be free magnets, posters and autograph signing after the game. Season tickets are on sale for $50 for a reserved seat. Family passes are $15.
