No. 6 BYU hosts Nebraska
The No. 6 BYU women's soccer team (1-0-0) will host Nebraska (2-0-0) this Saturday Aug. 31 before heading on the road to Baton Rouge, La., to face the LSU Tigers on Labor Day.
The Cougars beat Cal State Fullerton 3-1 in their regular season home opener last Friday. BYU had two goals scored by Rachel Manning and another added by freshman Ashley Hatch. Manning was named WCC Player of the Week for Aug. 26.
Nebraska played two games over the weekend beating Southeast Missouri State 4-0 and Cincinnati 4-1. Nebraska has scored seven second half goals this season.
BYU has never beaten Nebraska (0-3-0), but hasn't faced the Huskers since losing to them twice (2-0 and 3-0) in 2001. The 3-0 loss came in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Lincoln, Neb. The Huskers will continue their Utah road trip and play Utah State on Monday in Logan after facing the Cougars.
Game Promotion
For the first time ever, bleachers will be placed behind the east and west goals on South Field. Both areas will be designated as ROC (Roar of Cougars) sections, designed for students. Anyone can sit there, but should be aware that students will be standing during certain times. This will open another 1,000 capacity spots at South Field. To sit behind the west goal, you can only enter/exit through the northwest gate. Students who have purchased ROC passes are encouraged to pick them up before Saturday at the Marriott Center Ticket Office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
To avoid long lines, purchase a ticket here.
After Nebraska, BYU will travel to No. 25 LSU. The Tigers beat UL Monroe 6-0 on Tuesday night and defeated Louisiana Tech 1-0 on Friday night. BYU is 0-1-1 against LSU. Their last meeting was a scoreless draw at South Field on Sep. 9, 2010. The Tigers will play in the Minnesota Gold Classic against the Gophers and USC following their Labor Day game against BYU.
