WACO, Texas - The No. 22 BYU women's soccer team took down No. 20 Baylor 2-1 in the Cougars' final non-conference game of the season on Friday night. The win is the second road win over a ranked opponent this season for the Cougars.

"This is a big win for us coming off a couple of losses," BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood said. "Anytime you get a big win on the road it gives you momentum going forward."

BYU (6-3-1) scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute as Cloee Colohan and Sarah Chambers found Colette Jepson Smith who beat her defender to put the ball in the back of the net. Jepson Smith's second goal of the season put BYU up 2-1. The offense kept pressure on Baylor and the defense survived two late corner kicks from Baylor to finish out the game.

"Sarah found Colette, who took a left-footed shot at a tough angle," Rockwood said, "and that ended up the game-winner."

Baylor (8-2-2) had tied the game 1-1 in the 51st minute on a Bri Campos free kick from 25 yards out.

BYU drew a foul off a corner kick in the first half. Colohan put the ensuing free kick in the back of the net for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead 29 minutes into the game.

Erica Owens recorded four saves and helped the Cougars win for the first time when an opponent won more corner kicks. BYU did record 12 shots to  Baylor's 10 in the contest. The win is head coach Jennifer Rockwood's 299th career victory.

The Cougars start their West Coast Conference title defense this week. BYU travels to San Francisco on Thursday Oct. 10 and play at Santa Clara on Saturday, Oct. 12.
