Portland, Gonzaga make trip to South Field

PROVO, Utah – No. 23 BYU women's soccer looks to continue its six-game winning streak with home games against Portland and Gonzaga this week.

The Cougars (7-3-2, 1-0-0) hosts the Pilots Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. MDT. The game will be televised on BYUtv. BYU hosts Gonzaga on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. MDT. The game will also be televised on BYUtv and can be heard on BYU Radio and Sirius XM channel 143.

Portland (5-5-2, 2-0-0) and Gonzaga (7-5-0, 2-0-0) come off wins over Saint Mary's and Pacific to begin West Coast Conference play. 

The Cougars have won six straight games dating back to Sept. 13. BYU has also averaged three goals per game during the streak. Sophomore forward Ashley Hatch has surpassed last season's goal total with her eighth on Friday against San Diego. There are also seven Cougars with multiple assists already this season.

Portland is led by Preseason All-WCC forward Danica Evans who has seven goals, including four gamewinners. The Pilots have 12 players who have assisted on goals already this season. Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Luty has seen the majority of the action in goal this season and has two solo shutouts and a combined shutout.

During its non conference schedule, Portland beat North Carolina State and Miami, while losing to highly ranked teams Florida State, Stanford and Wisconsin.

Gonzaga has won four of its last five, with an overtime loss to SMU in the middle. In their non conference schedule, the Bulldogs beat Fresno State, Idaho, Boise State and North Texas. The team is led by senior Tori Lee and sophomore Karley Baggerly with four goals each. Freshman forward Brittany Doan has also added three goals. Junior goalkeeper Christie Tombari has allowed 13 goals in 12 games, including four shutouts.

Gonzaga plays at San Diego Thursday before traveling to Provo for Saturday's matchup.
