No. 19 BYU faces No. 18 Cal, No. 3 Stanford in Hawaii

PROVO, Utah – No. 19 BYU women's soccer travels to Hawaii to begin the 2015 season against Pac-12 opponents No. 18 California and No. 3 Stanford in the Outrigger Resorts Soccer Classic.

The Cougars face Cal on Friday, Aug. 21 at 4:30 p.m. HST (8:30 p.m. MDT), while Stanford faces host Hawaii. On Monday, Aug. 24, BYU plays the Cardinal at 7 p.m. HST (11 p.m. MDT). Both games for BYU will be carried live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network and ESPN 960 AM. 

BYU was picked to win the West Coast Conference in the preseason coaches poll, which would be the fourth title in a row for the Cougars. In an exhibition warmup, BYU beat Arizona 3-2 on Saturday at South Field off goals from Ashley Hatch, Brittain Dearden and Paige Hunt.

California was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 after finishing in fifth last year. The Golden Bears won’t play any exhibition matches before facing BYU on Friday. 

Stanford beat Fresno State 3-0 on Friday in its only preseason matchup and was picked to win the Pac-12 this season after finishing second last year. 

The game against Stanford will include three players on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Cardinal have two players on the Hermann Trophy watch list in junior goalkeeper Jane Campbell and sophomore midfielder Andi Sullivan. Hatch is BYU's lone MAC Hermann Trophy candidate. Campbell recorded 14 shutouts for Stanford last season and Sullivan was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Stanford is the only opponent BYU will face this season with players on the Hermann watch list. 

Fireside in Hawaii

BYU women's soccer will host a fireside on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Honolulu Tabernacle. The public is invited to share with the team in a gospel-focused program. The Tabernacle is located at 1560 S. Beretania St. in Honolulu, next to the Shriner's Hospital.
