No. 5 BYU hosts Utah State, UNLV

BYU vs. Utah State Game Notes

PROVO, Utah – No. 5 BYU women’s soccer hosts Utah State and UNLV to begin a three-game homestand.

The Cougars (4-1-0) play Utah State (3-2-1) on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. MDT on South Field. The game will be broadcast on BYUtv as well as the Cougar IMG Sports Network and ESPN 960 AM.

On Saturday, BYU hosts UNLV (3-3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. MDT on South Field. The game can be heard on ESPN 960 AM.

BYU is coming off a week where the Cougars moved from No. 9 in the nation to No. 5 on a 2-0 win against rival Utah and a 1-0 loss at No. 2 Stanford. Against Utah, freshman Madie Siddoway scored her first career goal and Nadia Gomes added a goal off a free kick for the final margin.

Stanford’s goal in the 32nd minute ended the shutout streak the Cougar defense had put together to start the season which spanned 392 minutes.

Utah State has beaten Central Arkansas, Missouri State and Houston so far this season. This past weekend the Aggies lost to Iowa in Montana and tied Gonzaga in Spokane, Washington. They are led by junior forward Jessica Brooksby who has scored three goals in six games this season. Utah State was picked to finish tied for fourth in the Mountain West Conference this season after finishing last year in fifth.

UNLV has beaten Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, Northern Arizona and Utah Valley so far this season. The Rebels are led by junior forward Susie Bernal and her two goals. Bernal is returning from a knee injury that kept her out for the 2014 season.

UNLV was picked to finish in eighth in the MWC a year after just missing the conference tournament with a seventh-place finish.
