No. 6 Cougars finish nonconference with California swing
BYU vs. Cal Poly and Long Beach State Game Notes
PROVO, Utah – No. 6 BYU women’s soccer heads to California to finish the nonconference schedule with games against Cal Poly on Thursday and Long Beach State on Saturday.
The Cougars (7-1-0) will play at Cal Poly (4-2-3) on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. PDT. The game can be heard on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, ESPN 960 AM and BYU Radio Sirius XM 143. A video stream of the game will be available on BigWest.tv.
BYU faces Long Beach State (5-2-3) on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. PDT. The game will be broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network and ESPN 960.
BYU is on a three-game win streak and a three-game shutout streak that spans the last two weeks. The Cougars are third in the nation in RPI and are fourth in shutout percentage, third in save percentage and third in goals against average. BYU has four players who have scored two goals with Hermann Trophy watch lister Ashley Hatch having scored three in eight games. Nadia Gomes leads the team in assists with three.
Cal Poly is led offensively by freshman forward Caitlyn Kreutz who has scored five goals on 15 shots this season. The Mustangs have held opponents scoreless twice this season, including a 0-0 draw against Cal over the weekend. Cal Poly was picked to win the Big West this season.
Long Beach State is led offensively by senior Melanie Fox and sophomore Ashley Gonzales who have each scored three goals. Long Beach goalkeeper Ashton McKeown has six combined shutouts. The 49ers have faced overtime in six of the 10 games they have played this season. Long Beach State was picked to finish second behind Cal Poly in the Big West this year.
