No. 5 BYU returns home against San Diego
PROVO, Utah – No. 5 BYU women’s soccer returns from a four-game road trip to host San Diego on Friday in the West Coast Conference home opener.
The Cougars (10-1-1, 2-0-0) kick off against the Toreros (3-8-2, 1-1-0) at 7 p.m. MDT. The game will be broadcast on BYUtv and can be heard on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, ESPN 960 AM, BYU Radio and Sirius XM 143.
BYU is one of three undefeated teams left in the WCC after the opening weekend. The Cougars beat Gonzaga 1-0 and Portland 2-1 on the road. San Diego is 1-1 in the WCC after beating Portland 1-0 and losing to Gonzaga 2-1.
BYU sophomore forward Nadia Gomes was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week as she scored both game-winning goals last week. Gomes’ four goals have already surpassed her total from a year ago of three. Junior midfielder Elena Medeiros scored the other goal for the Cougars against Portland and currently leads the team with five.
The Cougars have shut out opponents eight times this season and haven’t allowed a goal at home since last fall.
San Diego has won twice in their last four games and is in the midst of a four-game road trip. The Toreros were picked fourth in the preseason coaches poll ahead of Portland, San Francisco and LMU.

Friday’s game will be this year’s pink game for breast cancer awareness.
