No. 5 Cougars face San Francisco, No. 20 Santa Clara
BYU vs. Santa Clara Game Notes
PROVO, Utah – No. 5 BYU women’s soccer heads to the Bay Area to face two teams tied for second place in the West Coast Conference on Thursday and Saturday.
The Cougars (12-1-1, 4-0-0) play San Francisco (9-3-3, 3-1-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m. PDT. The game can be heard on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, ESPN 960 AM, BYU Radio and Sirius XM 143. It will also be streamed on TheW.tv.
BYU faces No. 20 Santa Clara (10-5-0, 3-1-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m. PDT. The game will be streamed on TheW.tv.
The Cougars improved to 4-0-0 in conference with a 2-0 win over Pacific on Saturday. Goals from Michele Murphy Vasconcelos and Nadia Gomes led the way for BYU as the team recorded its eighth straight shutout at South Field.
BYU has allowed four goals this season which is tied for the second fewest in the nation with West Virginia and Rutgers and only trails Cornell.
So far this season, BYU is 4-1-1 in road games and has won three straight.
San Francisco is led by WCC Player of the Week Sonja Giraud and Samantha Jennings on offense. Both players have scored five goals this season and two in WCC play. In goal, Madalyn Schiffel leads the WCC in shutouts with eight. The Dons lost to LMU, but beat Santa Clara, Pepperdine and Gonzaga.
Santa Clara has won three straight WCC games after losing the opener to San Francisco. The Broncos also lost to Cal 1-0 last Thursday. Seven different Broncos have scored multiple goals this season, while Andi Tostanoski has recorded seven shutouts and allows 0.54 goals per game.
