No. 13 BYU returns home for three-game WCC homestand
BYU vs. Pepperdine and LMU Game Notes
PROVO, Utah – No. 13 BYU women’s soccer returns home to close out the regular season with a three-game homestand. The Cougars host Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount on Thursday and Saturday.
BYU (12-2-2, 4-1-1) faces Pepperdine (8-6-2, 3-3-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT on South Field. The Cougars host LMU (11-4-1, 5-1-0) on Halloween, Saturday Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. MT. Both games will be televised on BYUtv and can be heard on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, ESPN 960 AM, BYU Radio and Sirius XM 143.
The Cougars are two points out of first place after losing at San Francisco and tying Santa Clara last weekend. There are four teams separated by two points for the top spot in the West Coast Conference. Of the four, only BYU finishes the season with its three remaining games at home. San Francisco and Santa Clara have three games on the road, while LMU closes with two of three away from home.
BYU is led by Nadia Gomes and Elena Medeiros with five goals each, while Gomes, Michele Murphy Vasconcelos and Madie Lyons are tied for the lead with three assists apiece.
BYU goalkeeper Rachel Boaz is third in the nation in save percentage (.914) and fourth in goals against average (0.371). The Cougars have shut out the last eight teams to visit South Field and are one shy of tying the program record for consecutive home shutouts at nine.
Pepperdine began WCC play 1-3-0 losing to Santa Clara, San Francisco and LMU before winning its two games last weekend against Portland and Gonzaga.
LMU is one of 13 teams including BYU who hasn’t lost at home this year, but the Lions are 2-3-1 on the road. They are tied for first with San Francisco in the WCC and have outscored opponents 16-8 in the first half of games this year.

On Thursday, ROC members will receive free pizza before the match, while supplies last.
On Thursday and Saturday, there will be a costume contest and on Saturday there will be candy for kids during the game.
