No. 4 BYU welcomes Denver, Long Beach State

PROVO, Utah – With a new No. 4 ranking in the NSCAA poll, BYU women's soccer takes on Denver and Long Beach State at South Field this week.

Game Notes

BYU Storylines

The Cougars are on a six-game win streak daiting back to Aug. 26. They have won each of their last five games by at least two goals.

Ashley Hatch leads the nation with 10 goals. MAC Hermann Trophy candidate Nadia Gomes is tied for sixth with six assists and has scored in both of the last two games. Michele Vasconcelos has netted six goals in the last five games.

The No. 4 ranking is the BYU's highest since 2012, when it eventually topped out at No. 2. Last season, the Cougars were briefly ranked No. 5 in the middle of October.

Denver Storylines

Denver (3-6-0) has lost back-to-back games. The Pioneers had an impressive win on Sept. 4, beating Arizona State 3-1.

Six different players have scored a goal for Denver, but no player has scored more than one this season.

BYU leads the all-time series 2-1. The Cougars beat the Pioneers 4-1 in Denver in 2014, with Hatch, Vasconcelos, Elena Medeiros and Madie Lyons scoring goals for BYU.

Long Beach State Storylines

The 49ers (4-4-1) have also lost back-to-back games to even their wins and loses. Two of their losses came to ranked teams (Penn State and UCLA), while the other two came to West Coast Conference teams (Loyola Marymount and San Diego).
