No. 3 BYU takes eight straight wins into WCC play

PROVO, Utah – A 9-1 nonconference mark takes No. 3 BYU women's soccer into West Coast Conference action, with home games against Santa Clara on Thursday, Sept. 29, and San Francisco on Monday, Oct. 3.

BYU Storylines

The Cougars have won eight games in a row, dating back to their 3-2 win on Aug. 26 at No. 5 Penn State. It's their longest winning streak since 2014 when they won 11 straight. Eight wins is tied for the second-longest active streak in the nation.

Ashley Hatch leads the nation with 12 goals and 28 points (goals times two plus assists). MAC Hermann Trophy candidate Nadia Gomes is tied for third in the nation with eight assists. Goalkeeper Hannah Clark is 8-0 with five shutouts since replacing injured teammate Rachel Boaz between the pipes.

BYU has won the WCC title in four straight seasons.

Santa Clara Storylines

The Broncos (3-4-3) haven't posted excellent results thus far, but have played close games with tough opponents. All four Santa Clara losses have come by one goal, and the Broncos have beaten ranked opponents California and USC.

Senior midfielder Jordan Jesolva leads Santa Clara with four goals and has two assists.

BYU trails in the all-time series 1-6-3. The Cougars got their first series win in 2014 and tied at Santa Clara last year, 0-0.

San Francisco Storylines

The Dons (4-6-0) have an 11-day break between their 1-0 win against UC Davis on Sept. 18 and their Thursday matchup with San Diego. Their high point of the season so far was a 2-1 double-overtime win against Arizona State on Sept. 9.

Amanda Whittle, a senior midfielder, leads San Francisco with four goals and four assists.
